Search Engine/Directory Submission:

Under ALM definition of search engine (se) submission is to submit a site to search engines and directories and get it listed. Search engines are more general in nature and usually free. But directories are specific like "computer listing", "car listing" etc and are usually fee based. Surfers or people will go into both this sites to search for sites on specific things they want.

After creating a fantastic website, the first thing to do is not start running advertisement campaign on the papers or internet but to submit their site to se.

#1 Region : There are much confusion in se submission especially in AsiaPacific. Many companies claimed to assist in the se submission of 1,500 sites but if one do look closer, the se are located in U.S. If the business is concentrating in Asia should the submission be done in AsiaPac rather than U.S.? In region segmentation, we could classify the submission process by U.S., Europe and AsiaPacific.

#2 Technologies : Submission can be done manually or through software. There are also differences in use of software. Some will assist in higher chance of getting the site listed, some may assist in getting it listed on the top few pages whilst some just submit - whether it is listed or not is not their problem. Especially directories, manual submmission is preferred.

#3 Problems in listing : Submission to a se does not automatically means it will be listed. Before submission, it is recommended to fine tune the site to have a higher chance of your site get listed. For more information, pl see article on site tuning.

#4 Other issues : Not discuss in this article - multiple, period, monitoring etc
